Kwame Nkrumah, first President of Ghana said “I am not an African because I was born in Africa but because Africa was born in me.”
We believe that the empowerment of African people in the Diaspora requires a connection with Africa, our mother continent. We believe it is our obligation to establish a direct connection with Africa and celebrate our shared ancestral heritage. The Birthright Movement is about discovering, connecting and sustaining a relationship with Africa through art, education, cultural immersion, and small business development and investment.
Our Journeys go beyond the average tourist visit and make a concerted effort to immerse our travelers in the culture of people and tradition. Through a unique partnership with African Ancestry, Birthright Journeys help descendants of enslaved Africans trace their ancestry to the specific ethnic group of their forebears and includes an African Ancestry Reveal during the journey.
We celebrate our resilience and help make connections where our travelers not only learn about the people and customs of the places we visit but also have an opportunity to share their own history, perspective and revelations. It’s a reciprocal exchange that helps to eliminate the stereotypes often portrayed about each other to each other. We build bridges.
